First Landmark!

We hoped and dreamed it could happen, but I’ll be honest and write that I was surprised to see it happen so early in our fundraising process! Late last night (Monday, November 1st) Neil Gaiman blasted our kickstarter link out to the twitter universe with the following:

The Kickstarter of “the price” (made by fans, for fans) is up at http://bit.ly/9JeuFs – check it out. It needs your support. http://twitter.com/#!/neilhimself/status/29434711213

Just shy of 140 characters, but it’s all it took to get our wee project off and running – and a blast of pledges and re-tweets came pouring in – which is so humbling to witness.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of an exciting 29 days – at the end of which we’ll have been part of Kickstarter history and we’ll be well on our way to delivering a project we know you’ll love!

Stay tuned! And if you tweet, give Neil a follow.

Here We Go!!!

Well, tonight is definitely a big night … after 4 years of epic dreaming and a lot of hard work, my little film is about to get the boost it has so badly been in need of: Kickstarter.com. (You should follow the link & check it out yourself.) Basically, Kickstarter is a platform for funding creative projects like mine by harnessing the power of social networking. If you like what you see, you can pledge or donate with preset amounts that come with some really great (and inventive) rewards. The most innovative thing is its “all-or-nothing” funding philosophy: if the project you’ve donated to doesn’t fund completely, no money changes hands — genius!

The single biggest problem for me has been where to get the funding to produce the final film. With Kickstarter (and a lot of help from the incredibly generous author, Mr. Neil Gaiman himself), there is now a way for me as a filmmaker to directly link to the actual people who would want something like this — Neil’s fans! You will be the ones to make this all possible, a film made by fans for fans!!!

Future posts will feature video episodes, production art, and will chronicle the journey I’m taking as an independent filmmaker given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by an author who is genuinely fascinated by the creative process and willing to help others who share that fascination. This is going to (continue to) be a wild ride and I’m thrilled for you to come along!!!
